"Thousands of acres green mangroves line the border between the Arabian sea and the city of Mumbai. They act as natural defenders against flooding. The mangroves are valued for its protection and stabilization of low-lying coastal lands and its importance in coastal food chains.
These mangroves are being destroyed in the guise of infrastructure development. Destruction of mangroves and unplanned constructions are major causes for flooding in Mumbai. These developmental projects and the land reclaimed from mangroves is now blocking the rain water from flowing out into the sea.
With these mangroves gone, Mumbai will be left without a vital line of defense when natural disasters strike.
Let's make an effort to conserve and protect the mangroves."
